The SuperJesus are ...

Most of the songs are written by Sarah and Chris.

History

The Superjesus first got together as themselves around 2 years ago (1995) in Adelaide after playing around as Hell's Kitchen. The early sound of the Superjesus is described by Sarah as being "heavier" with more metal-type riffs with an early metal influence. After playing together for a while, they began the tour of the Adelaide scene, which is according to those that live there quite happening (probably more than you would might expect). Gradually their style is described as changing to a more melodic but still hard rockin' sound.

In mid-1996 they released their first 5 track EP Eight Step Rail on Aloha Records/Warner Music Australia. This contained the songs : Ground, Shut My Eyes, I'm Stained, Glazed, and Strips of You. This EP was only released in limited numbers, and is pretty rare to now find around. After their 1997 ARIA win, the EP was re-released, again in limited numbers, which pretty quickly sold out. Apparently, the EP is soon to be deleted (or no longer produced), making owners of the first EP lucky people !

The Superjesus first obtained national recognition with frequent airplay of Shut my Eyes on the national radio station JJJ, plus some airplay on the independent RRR in Melbourne. There EP also went to number #1 in the Australian alternative charts for a period. After this success they toured Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney for the 1997 (and final) Big Day Out festival, where they were well received. Later on in the tour, some record companies were following them around them to hear them play, which was a good sign that they were going to get a full length release in the not-too-distant future.

According to the band, the first full-length album (probably around 12 tracks) will be probably be out on February 2nd, 1998 and currently has the name of Sumo. Most of the songs for the new album were recorded around June, 1997 in the US. The Superjesus' first single off the album was Down Again and was released on 25th August, 1997, and contains the b-side Blisterment. In that month they played one of their first national tours, of Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. In September The Superjesus won two ARIAs (Australian Record Industry Awards), one for Best New Talent, and one for Best Debut Single (for Shut my Eyes), which the band themselves seemed pretty surprised to win. From November to December they commenced an Australian tour of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, and Adelaide, playing quite a few songs from their upcoming full-length album. During this tour, the second single of the album, Saturation was released, including the heavy b-side Face Down.

In late 1997 - early 1998, The Superjesus had a heavy schedule, playing a number of festivals, including Push Over 97, Rock Above the Falls, and Homebake.

On February 16th, 1998 the Superjesus first full-length album SUMO was released, containing 10 tracks. To celebrate the launch of this album they embarked on their largest to-date nationwide tour, taking in most states, and several of the largest city centres.

Over the last year, the Superjesus have played support for other well known bands such as Bush, Veruca Salt, Ammonia, the Clouds, and more right across Australia. Now The Superjesus generally headline their own show, with support from a number of other local bands, a big change from their early days.

Well that is pretty much their history up until now, if anybody has any more details of their history other than what is here, let me know...
